Now that 2018 is upon us, we thought we’d give you a round-up of what some our team members have been up to over the last few months and the progress they’ve made with some of our major clients and projects.
Our Project Manager John Boyle is still working on great projects with one of our biggest clients, Glaxo Smith Kline, assisted by Bobby our Site Manager. Just some of the projects that John and Bobby have been busy with include:
- 1st floor and new mezzanine offices.
- A new-build office meeting room and stores.
For over 3 years now, John and Bobby (and Bobby’s able assistant ‘Pistol’ Pete) have successfully serviced client needs and kept us busy at GSK’s Irvine and Barnard Castle sites.
We are very proud to continue to work with a prestigious client like GSK and all our team works hard to ensure we meet their very high standards every time.
Willie has been very busy with projects for many of our high-profile retail clients, starting with a full strip-out and new services, service sub-divisions and firewalls for three large retail spaces.
As the market progressed throughout 2017, new projects for clients including The Range, Matalan and Poundstretcher saw Willie managing the successful installation of new entrances and canopies, fire doors, cladding and roof repairs across a number of sites.
Our sincere thanks go to Frank, our client, for a very interesting and challenging project.
Over the summer, Willie was busy on several additional projects, including Edinburgh University corridor upgrades which involved Willie’s specialist subject: asbestos removal. This was completed on time and to budget with minimal disruption during exam time.
Special thanks go to Gordon, our client, and Jason, the surveyor, for helping us make a difficult job feel simple.
As I write this, Willie is busy once again. This time in Glenrothes and Edinburgh on client maintenance and upgrade projects.
Alan started 2017 with a large office and laboratory fit-out project at West of Scotland Science Park and since then, has been popping up all over the country doing all sorts of things like:
- Fast-track shop fit-outs nationwide with some of our repeat clients.
- Fitting out the plumbing department at West College Scotland’s lab.
- Keeping site foreman Ian and our new joiner Alex very busy.
Alan is currently involved in three fast-track fit-outs in the north of England for a nationwide client.
Joe has been busy throughout 2017 delivering bar upgrades and helping keep several establishments current for long standing client Matthew Riley. As always, a big thank you is in order to Matthew, for continuing to choose us to help deliver his great projects.
Joe also returned to Skye following last year’s fit-out of the bar and restaurant at the Bosville Hotel in Portree.
This time, we manufactured all the units for Seamus’s Bar at the Sligachan Hotel. With the tourist industry booming on Skye, we are looking at yet more potential expansion with the same client.
In Bath St, in Glasgow city centre, a client we’ve fitted out several office floors for over the years, decided to upgrade some of their common areas, basement and toilet facilities.
Keeping things interesting for Joe , he was also involved in a different kind of project for us; the renewal of shopfronts with multi coloured fitments on a listed building in Falkirk town centre.
We must admit, the ZM Architects’ scheme looked wacky in the workshop but their vision paid off as the project looks fantastic on completion.
Sadly, we lost a few of our excellent, highly trained and skilled young joiners over the year, some of whom have decided to go into business for themselves. We take a great satisfaction in knowing that the experience and skills they learned with BSL will stand them in good stead for the rest of their careers. It’s also testament to the standard of training and range of experience we can offer our joiners, that they can have the confidence and knowledge to go out there and do it for themselves.
We’d like to offer our sincere best wishes and good luck to Andrew, Dave and John for the future.
New recruits, Mick in the workshop and Alex on fit-outs are settling in well and fast becoming vital members of the BSL team.
We also started two new apprentices in the summer: Brad and Callum. We firmly believe that organic growth is the best kind of growth, so we take pride in being able to offer skilled apprenticeships to help fuel our growth and the skills of our young people.
